Temporary US Car Insurance

Temporary US Car Insurance Policies

Temporary US car insurance is not a type of car insurance that you hear about all of the time. However it can come in very handy under certain sets of circumstances. As the name implies, it is insurance that you purchase if you need to use a car on a temporary basis. For example, the damage waiver insurance you purchase when you rent a car is a form of short term insurance. Most insurance policies of this sort can be taken out for as short a period of time as one day and as long a period as up to six months. It is all dependent on what you require as a driver.

When you buy a temporary US car insurance policy you can decide to either pay the premium in advance or you can pay it in monthly installments. Check with the insurance company that you buy the policy from as the manner in which you pay the premium may vary from insurance provider to insurance provider.

This form of temporarily insuring a vehicle may cover such things as collision, physical damages, medical expenses, bodily injuries and motorists that are not insured. If these elements look familiar then that is not surprising as these are the same things that you are provided when you buy long term car insurance. Be aware though that you should not abuse the use of temporary US car insurance. In other words, do not buy short term vehicle insurance that is cheap just so you can save money on premiums.

What reasons are there for buying a temporary policy for a car? One might be if you plan to go out of your city or town for a weekend trip or for longer and require a rental vehicle. If you need to drive another person's car and they have given you permission to do so then you need to insure the car while you have it. If you come to the US to visit someone and wish to drive their vehicle while you are visiting then a temporary US car insurance policy is advantageous for yourself and the car owner.

There is plenty of convenience in taking out a short term or temporary policy. Adding a driver or multiple drivers to this kind of policy is a simple process. In fact it is easier to add other people to a temporary plan than to a permanent car insurance plan. Keep in mind when it comes to this short term version of insurance that it is limited not in coverage but in time.
